TL;DR: MiSTer Connect has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no trackers. It talks to your own MiSTer FPGA on your local network. The only third parties involved are Apple/Google + RevenueCat (if you buy Connect Pro) and the libretro thumbnails server (if you turn on box art). We never see your data — we don't even have a server.
MiSTer Connect ("the app") is developed by Dev Cells ("we", "us"), based in Italy. This policy describes what the app does — and mostly doesn't do — with your data.
The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising SDKs, and no tracking of any kind. There is no account system and no registration. We do not operate any backend server, so no personal data is ever transmitted to us.
The app stores a small amount of data locally on your phone, solely so it can work:
The MiSTer Remote API does not use passwords, so the app stores no credentials of any kind. This data stays on your device; you can erase it at any time by deleting the app. On Android, standard operating-system backups may include these settings, following your device's backup configuration.
The app's core function is to communicate with your own MiSTer FPGA device on your local network, via the open-source Remote service (part of the mrext project). Commands, game lists, screenshots, and settings travel directly between your phone and your MiSTer over your own network. This traffic never passes through our servers — we don't have any.
To do this, the app requests the Local Network permission on iOS and uses the standard network permissions on Android.
If you enable the box art feature (part of Connect Pro), the app downloads cover images from the public libretro-thumbnails service at thumbnails.libretro.com. To fetch an image, the request necessarily includes the game name and system in the URL, along with your IP address as with any internet request. No other information is sent. If box art is turned off, no such requests are made. See the libretro-thumbnails project for details.
Connect Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment details.
To validate purchases and restore them across your devices, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated identifier and purchase receipt information from the app store — not your name, email, or payment details. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy for how they handle this data.
If you choose to save a MiSTer screenshot to your photo library, the app asks for add-only photo access (iOS) or uses the standard media storage mechanism (Android). The app can only add the images you explicitly save — it cannot read or browse your existing photos.
This website is a static page. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics, embeds no third-party fonts or scripts, and stores nothing in your browser. That's why there's no cookie banner — there's genuinely nothing to consent to.
The app does not collect personal data from anyone, including children. It is a utility for controlling MiSTer FPGA hardware and is not directed at children.
Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on our side. All app data lives on your device and is removed when you delete the app. Under the GDPR and similar laws, you may still contact us with any privacy question or complaint, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in Italy, the Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali).
If the app ever changes in a way that affects your privacy (for example, adding a new feature that talks to a new service), we will update this policy and change the effective date at the top of this page.
